How do I start?

Thanks for wanting to use the SFB data portal. This step might change your way to collaborate and work in your lab, and help you produce FAIR data ready for being published. The first steps are a bit demanding as it goes through 3 steps: set your organisation (admin), create a research repository, set your computer to work with the repository. Once setup, the daily work is insignificant and the time saved could be huge (10% in average).

In the end of this relatively short process (1-2 hour inclusive download time), you will have you data in the data portal, shared with chosen collaborators and the data curator, while mostly working with usual folders on your machine.

Quickstart: 1 Admin tasks

The first step in using the SFB1315 data portal is to request an organisation and liberate some data storage place for it.

  • Register on the GIN platform here.
  • Ask the data curator to create an organisation (julien.colomb@hu-berlin.de)
  • If a group already exist, you may also contact the group owner (usually the lab PI) to be added to the organisation (in the writer team).

For SFB1315 PIs: you may also create an organisation yourself, and add the "tonicbot" user as an owner of that organisation.

Quickstart: 3 share research repositories

To share your repositories, you will need to ask co-workers to register on the platform and then add them as member of your team. For technical reasons, this second step can only be done by a user with admin access to your organisation.

However, you can open an issue and tag @tonicbot in the issue or (better) make @tonicbot an assignee of the issue (button on the right of the screen). To do so, get to your .main repository page and click the issue tab (next to files tab), and then click the new issuegreen button. Write some text as title and description of the issue and click create issue green button. You can assign users or add comments later on.

Quickstart: 4 Computer synchronisation with datalad
